Grandmas' Houses

Nang pasimula ay nilikha… Or, “in the beginning.” Is a tattoo that I plan to get eventually, up there with the pulsar map from the Golden Voyager and a ginkgo tree leaf (or two).

I would like to get it in Baybayin, Filipino indigenous script, on my shoulder arranged in a circle. It’s one of the few things I’ve resolved to get for myself once I have enough saved to get it done. As a way to affirm my own creation myth, as a Filipinx American raised Catholic with family from Bicol.

As I reach my twenty-third spring I find myself wanting to go home to my grandmas’ houses more and more. I saw my father’s mother buried before 2025 began, and the grief for both of them unravels so suddenly at the most random times. Post-graduation Adulthood™ is eerily still.
